How to clean a chandelier

Glass or Crystal chandelier sparkles only when its clean. Here is how to use a lint free cloth to keep chandeliers shiny and clean.

Supplies you'll need:

A step ladder to reach the fixture, a blanket on the floor this will help prevent any crystal prism or glass to break.

White gloves, lint free cloths are recommended especially when cleaning crystals, which easily picks up finger prints.

When to clean a chandelier:

A chandelier needs to be cleaned at least once a year or so. Crystal chandelier needs cleaning when the crystal appears dull. More contemporary chandelier designs should be cleaned when the glass or frame begins to look dusty.

Other Useful Tips:

  1. Dust your chandelier every two to three months with a duster.

  2. Avoid ammonia based cleaners, which can remove the finish from the gold or sliver plated hooks which helps to hold the crystal prism in place.

  3. Never rotate the chandelier to reach each section. this could loosen the fixtures support and could eventually cause it to fall. Instead move your ladder around as you clean.

  4. While you're at it consider replacing the light bulbs which ain't working.

If your chandelier hands too high or the design is so elaborate that you don't feel comfortable taking it apart, you may need to call a professional cleaning service.
